Nutrients

We use diet, counting calories, but do we know the basic information about the nutrients found in food? In a series of articles you will be able to remember the most important information necessary to compose healthy meals. Just a small compendium of knowledge.

Generally speaking nutrient is any substance that can be found in drinks and food, essential for good health.

Nutrients are compounds that occur in food products of animal and vegetable origin, which, when ingested and digested assimilation (except for the fiber, which is non digestible). These components build the human body.

There are two kinds of nutrients:

A. Basic nutrients such as protein, fats and carbohydrates, which play a major role in maintaining health and provide energy in the form of calories.

B. Additional nutrients or vitamins and minerals (such as iron and calcium) which are also very important, but the demand for them is much lower.

The food consists of the following nutrients:

1.Fats

2.Proteins

3.Carbohydrates

4.Minerals

5.Vitamins

6.Water

7.Organic Acids

8.And other compounds whose importance and role have not yet been fully understood.

For proper development, growth and functioning are needed about 60 different nutrients, including about 40 of them, a person must provide the body with pokarmem.

Nutrients that the body can produce from other compounds called endogenous, while those that a man must enter into the body with food is called exogenous.

Depending on the function that nutrients perform in the body, we divide them into three groups:

GROUP I - BUILDING BLOCKS

This group includes protein and minerals. Proteins as necessary for the reconstruction and construction of the bone is considered to be the main building block. In contrast minerals are involved in many physiological processes and are part of the bone.

GROUP II - ENERGY

For energy components include mainly fats and carbohydrates, which gradually succumbing to the burning of the body produce thermal energy. Most of the energy obtained from burning fat - 1g of fat is 9kcal, and 1g of carbohydrates is 4kcal. In the body there is also the proteins combustion (derived from the combustion energy of a 1g protein is 4kcal).

GROUP III - GOVERNING

This group includes vitamins, fiber and minerals. 1 These compounds do not provide energy and are not building material but are equally important because, as a biocatalyst involved in all the changes that occur in the organism and regulate motility of the gastrointestinal tract (fiber).
